Tree roots and a ruined tower at Angkor

Series: Among the Temples of Angkor · Digital

On the left, the pale, buttressed trunk of a giant tree, its roots spreading over the fallen blocks of a temple at Angkor. Between the tree and a row of square sandstone pillars, a stone passage leads to a crumbling tower; its dark opening looks through a string of doorways to a sunlit wall at the end. Lichen and reddish stains on the pillars, dry leaves on the stones. Here the forest and the Khmer ruins have grown into one another.
