A monk before a headless Buddha at Ta Prohm

Series: Among the Temples of Angkor · Digital

Inside Ta Prohm at Angkor, a Buddhist monk in an orange robe kneels barefoot on a mat in front of a large seated Buddha that has lost its head. The statue sits on the coils of a naga serpent, on a stepped stone base. Around it, square pillars and carved lintels hold up a half-collapsed stone vault, and a doorway on the left opens onto fallen stones in the sun. Warm light fills the hall, and the robe glows against the pale sandstone.
