The stone minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque rises above dark treetops in Marrakech, topped with golden spheres. Carved arches, narrow windows and a band of blue-and-white tiles decorate the tower, and its crenellated top is sharp against a pale sky. Low, warm light turns the stone pink.
